Great TV, Decent Price, Nice Features

Review Date: February 23, 2010
Reviewer: Greg F. Riegler, Pensacola, FL USA
I purchased this TV with the idea it may retire to my bedroom after a while with a larger replacement - thus I didn't go top of the line (250hz LED,etc). Though I was pleasantly surprised with the clean appearance, ease of set up, great picture, excellent sound (for a TV), and the broadband/netcast features are nice.

I have a Blu-ray player that allows me to stream netflix, though not having to turn on that device and be able to stream netflix directly to this TV is a nice feature. Via use of USB (or I can only assume, NAS Storage device via ethernet) you can watch downloaded TV shows/Movies with ease. (playback of avi, mpeg, mkv, etc) As well as view photos and play music.

120hz is a little surreal at times but that's true with any TV - though it looks great on sports - I've also noticed on some HD channels that are known to knock out ever other frame (ABC...) the 120hz at LOW setting seems to smooth back the playback a little. Though I generally have it turned off. the 24p Cinema mode, when coupled with a blu-ray player gives a nice smooth playback. Dynamic contrast and "Eye Care" settings are good for watching movies in the dark without having scenes that go so bright they blind you.

I was surprised by the quality of the audio coming from the built in speakers. The 'invisible speaker' stuff this TV touts is actually nice, there are no visible speakers on the unit, yet it sounds full. Granted heavy bass does drop out - but this is one of the first TV's I've been comfortable listening to the audio from directly. (Minus the old school Monster projector TVs with the 10 speakers below the screen). Though I have this set up via optical cable to my 5.1 Surround - the week or 2 I didn't have that set up I wasn't cringing at bad sound.

The price doesn't drop as low as the 42LH40 or LH30 price - but with the added features of the broadband and netcast, I don't regret spending the extra cash. I got the TV in late January for $799 shipped.

This is my first fullsized LCD display - I can't say its 'The Best' but for the price, features, and overall quality - I feel this product in the range of similar projects holds true - which is why I gave it a 5 Star rating.
Great TV!

Reviewer: Tim Worthey,
I finally decided to come into the 21st century and purchase a flat screen! After weeks of researching features, size, and price, I chose this LG. It seemaed to have the best fit for me. I am extremely happy with this TV. The picture is vivid, the sound quality good, and setup was very easy. When I compare it to the Samsungs that other family members own, I cannot see the difference. I have long been a fan of LG products and this has reinforced that opinion.
Whether watching Blu-ray, HDTV, or standard cable the picture quality is very good.
A valuable lesson that I have learned.....always check with Amazon BEFORE making a purchase elsewhere. They had the absolute best deal of anyone out there!
Best for 1st time HDTV owner...

This is a decent TV for the price and features. However, I really don't agree with all the enthusiam of other reviewers (I wish I did). The image is good but it is just not "the best", "unbelievable", etc. Feature-wise, you get a lot for the money. The widgets are nice, although not enough of them, the Netflix integration work very well. I suppose VUDU is nice to have but I personally don't see what it has to offer (at a cost) that Netflix doesn't (if you're a subscriber).

IMO, this TV has only a decent picture. If you have never owned another HDTV, you will probably be totally satisfied. I returned a Sony 40"S5100 due to QC issues. That tv had a much better picture. Better blacks and colors. It was however, plagued by quality issues that made it a headache. The LG has had none of those issues so far (knocking on wood).

The TruMotion is really a joke, IMO. It is not made for movies or TV but for Gaming and some sports and makes anything else look very unnatural! Note that this set is 120hz and that has noting to do with the Trumotion in the setup. It is confusing the was LG has it in the settings. 120hz is on by default and turning the 120 setting is selecting Trumotion.

Sound on the LG is good. I have no problems with it and is probably better than most. Granted, none of these tvs is made to impress with their sound systems.

So, if you're a gamer and not too particular (AKA picky) you will most definitely be happy with this set, especially for the money. This is especially true if you want easy access to Netflix w/o having to be a techy.

If not a gamer and you are particular, I'd say get another tv and set it up with an HTPC which will give you more internet viewing options. I'm happy with my purchase but I'd probably do the latter if I could do it again.

Hope this has helped someone.
Absolutely Outstanding

A truly great product. Super sharp picture. Multi-connections to both PC, internet, TV, video etc. Amazing that it can get both NetFlix, VUDU, and Yahoo Widgets through internet connection. Multiple HDMI connections, reads video and jpg directly from my external hard drive, great sound . . . lots and lots of special features.

Reviewer: Hungry IT,

I have been looking at LCD TV's for over a year and reading reviews like this one that I am giving for a TV that I would have to live with. I also based my decision on the spec-sheet given out by the manufactures. I found that the bigger the integer in the model number the better the specs were. In the case of LG I only would look at sets with a model number 50 and above. These sets had tens of thousands of contrast ratio, response times greater than 5 ms, (the smaller the number the greater it is: 2 ms is greater than 8 ms) vertical rates of 120 HZ, and lots of inputs. This model had DSL input which was the straw that triggered my purchase with a price that I could manage. Cash flow being a major block for me to buy anything. I knew that even if I could afford the TV set I still would not be able to feed it content as charged by cable, or satellite feeds. Off the air was said not to be available for the area I live in. I am able to buy basic DSL and this LG takes the output of the AT&T 2wire modem just fine. Plug & Play is what you want. LG provides a Yahoo content which works will enough for me. Who wants to be brain washed by pay for view FOX noise boys anyway? I am getting my news from AP direct just like the commercial TV stations do all be it raw feed but than who needs pay for view FOX noise boys brain washing anyway? I use the YouTube to view PBS news, ABC news, CBS news, NBC news, Daily show, and the BBC world news. What more do you want, the pay for view FOX noise boys? I could get NetFlicks for $5. a month and view old TV shows like the complete 33 episodes of Buck Rogers, Dr Who episodes, Good Neighbors, Are you being served, Keeping Up Appearances, Monty Python, Weeds. . .etc from their first episode to their last, & Movies. Also you may buy into VULU which is sort of like HULU except you PAY. A good deal if you can give up the money for that content. I intend to put my computer into the mix so that I can access HULU just to see more free & current content. First I have to learn Linux because my experiments with MS XP causes major melt down of the OS when working with HULU thus far and they say that they program for Linux which may be the reason that MS windows blows up TOTALY! I learned the other day that we could have free TV content on line except Republican Bushy FCC tagged the internet not as telecommunication so that the FCC rules for free TV access do not have to apply. Go figure that one! (#$$$#) I have a dream that TV station will broadcast into the internet just like they broadcast into the air for free to view! I blame the cable companies & the Republican FCC for not seeing/saying that a cable is a form of telecommunication subject to free TV access to the public. All that money that the TV station & networks put into telephone lines, microwave links, satellite feeds, studios on local soil, and MEGA-WATT transmitters on local soil, TAXES to local soil, could be put into a DSL IP. I have a DREAM! No more copper wires! Just a fiber optic line running up & down under my street! To that end I am buying my TV's DSL ready, X0,000 : 1 contrast, 2 ms or better, 120 HZ vertical, HDMI inputs for DVD etc, audio output for Adobe 5 home theater, computer input, USB input, and of course DSL with a 42 inch minimum screen! IT WORKS GREAT! Life is Good with out FOX noise boys! LG. Amazon did me good providing me access to this TV. Thank you Amazon for the great deal! AND thank you LG for a great TV! Thank you YaHoo for some free content Telecommunication access!
